On Things Remembered

I found you on your knees with my name fresh from your mouth.

The deafening roar of silence drew me to your side.

I paid a dear amount, so that you would have it all.

Why are you here so early?

 

My child cuddled in my lap and said, “Surrogates play games of war on my playground.”
